Why You Won't Change

Become Your Ideal Self Newsletter: Edition #2

Most people are hellbent on believing and proving that one cannot change who they are or their personality, habits, beliefs, and identity.

Why?

Because it’s easier to believe so than to work at actually changing yourself.

But..

People would rather believe that themselves and their lives can never change instead of believing and working on their transformation.

People would rather live their excuses than their motivations.

People would rather be comfortable in misery than be uncomfortable in growth & expansion.

4 LIMITING BELIEFS KEEPING YOU FROM REINVENTING YOURSELF:

1. OLD HABITS DIE HARD

Is it true or is it just more comfortable to believe?

When you don’t want to accept and eliminate a bad habit/pattern, you simply fool yourself by saying old habits die hard.

It is simply a limiting belief.

Whenever you catch yourself saying something like that again to validate your bad habits and escape taking ownership for change, stop yourself in the tracks.

Acknowledge and rewrite that belief into something more empowering and healthier.

Do not let your limiting belief fool you.

2. PERSONALITY IS FIXED

Another one of the most toxic limiting beliefs that keeps you from reinventing yourself is believing that your personality is fixed.

It’s also one of the most common limiting beliefs.

But once you see it objectively, you will realize how false it truly is.

Your personality is a culmination of your thoughts, beliefs, and worldview about yourself and your life.

When your thoughts, beliefs, and worldview take a physical form, it manifests as your personality.

Hence, reinventing your personality or yourself is just a function of changing your thoughts, beliefs, and worldview about yourself.

3. CLOSED-MINDEDNESS

Closed-mindedness is a limiting belief.

Potentially one of the most dangerous limiting beliefs.

Why?

Because it can keep you from finding out what’s best for you.

It is also very easy to believe and implement in the real world.

It’s so much easier to believe that:

  • you cannot change

  • your life cannot change

  • people cannot change

  • circumstances cannot change

  • the world cannot change

  • Etc.

Rather than taking ownership to change what you do not like.

These are all limiting beliefs that stop you from even going after what you truly want.

The first step to changing and overcoming this major limiting belief is to constantly feed yourself the possibility of change for anything in your life.

Change is possible for anything and everything, no matter how small or big it is.

Never shut yourself off from the possibility of change.

It is the stepping stone for growth.

4. SAFETY IN COMFORT

The comfort zone is super comfortable.

It also provides a major sense of (false) safety.

As humans, we are inherently programmed to survive not to thrive.

Because there was no need to thrive in ancient times since mere survival was taking all of our time of day and night.

But now, things have changed.

We have the time and the room to strive to thrive.

Your conscious mind doesn’t know or believe that.

It is still functioning in survival mode.

Hence, it is so against you leaving your comfort zone and that feeling of safety in it.

Fun fact: Sometimes being miserable, frustrated, and dissatisfied can also start to feel comfortable simply because you have been in that state for a long time now.

You get used to that negative state and then it becomes harder to even want to get rid of that state and change yourself or your life.

But all you are doing here is settling for an average life.

CHANGE IS THE ONLY CONSTANT

When life’s good, no one wants to change anything!

We only think about changing when we are not satisfied with life.

When we are struggling, down, and in the face of failure.

But it becomes 10X more difficult to change when you are in that situation and feeling all those negative emotions within.

In my opinion, change should come from a place of inspiration, not desperation.

(Not like desperation isn’t powerful.)

Inspiration is a positive state which allows you to take decisions and actions from a positive state (such as mindfulness, motivation, drive, etc.) rather than from a negative state of being (such as anger, frustration, revenge, etc.) and yields much more positive results.

So when you are inspired to reinvent yourself, you will love the process much more than if you had to change and reinvent yourself because of the circumstances.

Hence, we should look to improve ourselves in our daily life.

Imagine..

BECOMING THE MAIN CHARACTER OF YOUR STORY

Do you truly think, feel, and act like the main character of your story?

Do you behave like you are the one running your life?

If not, you need to sit with yourself and think deeply about it.

Because the fact is that you ARE the main character in your life.

It is YOUR life.

Not someone else’s.

Like imagine you watching a movie and the hero of the story is not taking the lead at all. Would you like that movie?

ACTUALIZING YOUR POTENTIAL

When you truly start to become and operate as the main character of your story, you realize how much you were leaving on the table in terms of what you can achieve and the kind of life you can build for yourself.

Your potential is currently capped by your current views about yourself.

Which means, you are selling yourself short.

But that also means that your potential exponentially increases as you reinvent yourself.

3 WAYS TO COMPLETELY REINVENT YOURSELF:

1. HIT ROCK BOTTOM & USE IT

If you have ever known what hitting rock bottom feels like, you will know how powerful of a motivator it is.

I know above I have mentioned not to wait for desperation to start reinventing yourself.

But if you have hit a personal rock bottom, take it as a blessing.

Utilize it to the fullest to begin your self-transformation journey.

Do not let this state go to waste.

Because here, you got nothing to lose.

Only wins.

2. CREATE A POWERFUL LIFE VISION

If you are dissatisfied with any area of your life, you know exactly what you DO NOT want in that area of life.

Now begin thinking about what you DO want in that area of life.

And also, in all the other areas of your life.

Create powerful visions for the next 1/3/5/10 years of your life for:

  • your physical fitness

  • your net worth

  • your social life

  • your relationships & family

  • your spirituality and personal growth

Think deeply, and set solid visions for all areas of your life.

Become hyperaware of what you DO want in your life.

This will allow you to take control and ownership to then start taking steps toward making these visions a reality for yourself.

3. CRAFT AN IDENTITY OF YOURSELF AS THE “MAIN CHARACTER”

Coming back to the movie metaphor, if you want to truly transform yourself and your life, you need to change your identity.

I want you to experience how powerful this is.

It can truly change your life.

Picture everything in great detail.

START LIVING LIFE INTENTIONALLY

Now every single morning, as soon as you wake up, decide to be this version of yourself.

Remind yourself that you are your ideal self.

Fill yourself up with this new identity.

Now be and do everything from this state of being.

That is how you completely reinvent yourself and transform your life.

It took 18+ years to condition you to the point you are now.

Don’t expect much progress overnight.

Keep at it.

Hope this helps! 🙌
